Picture a website that has been "almost ready" for two years. It has a parallax hero, a careers page for a team of three, and an animated counter announcing 1,000+ happy customers. It does not have a phone number above the fold.
This is the quiet secret of small-business websites: the expensive part is rarely the code. It is the indecision. So here is a short, calm list of what a simple website genuinely needs, and the things you can leave for later without guilt.
What it needs
1. One sentence that says what you do
Not a slogan. A sentence. "We build homes in North Bengaluru." "We make handmade leather bags and ship across India." If a visitor can repeat it back to a friend, the homepage has done its first job.
2. Proof that you are real
A photo of your actual work, an address, a registration or approval number if your industry has one, and a name. People buy from people. A site with no human on it feels like a waiting room with no receptionist.
3. A way to reach you that takes ten seconds
An enquiry form with three or four fields, a WhatsApp button, and your phone number. That is the whole conversion system for most small businesses. Every extra field you add is a small hill your customer has to climb.
4. Pages that work on a phone
Most of your visitors will arrive on a phone, often while doing something else. Big text, short paragraphs, buttons a thumb can find. If it reads well on a phone, it will read well everywhere.
5. The boring bits, done properly
- A connected domain and SSL, so browsers do not warn people away.
- A Google Business Profile that points to the website, so you show up in local searches.
- Page titles and descriptions that say what each page is about.
None of this is glamorous. All of it matters more than the animation.
What it can happily skip, for now
- A blog you will not update. An empty blog with one post from 2024 says more than no blog at all.
- Ten service pages. Start with one page that lists what you do. Split it later when people ask.
- Chatbots, pop-ups and countdown timers. Earn attention before you interrupt it.
- A careers page, unless you are actually hiring.
- Stock photos of handshakes. Your own slightly imperfect photo beats a perfect stranger.
A simple website is not a smaller version of a big website. It is a different thing: a calm, clear front door.
When simple stops being enough
You will know. Enquiries arrive faster than you can answer them. You start selling online. You add a second project, a second city, a second language. That is the moment to add things, one at a time, each with a reason. It is why our Premium websites are priced option by option instead of as a bundle.
Our Simple Website is built exactly this way: up to five pages, written for you, with an enquiry form, WhatsApp and a year of hosting. Start a conversation to get yours.
